The difference is everyone already has an opinion on Trump, even before he ran in 2015. The people who hate DeSantis have barely heard him speak. This is actually an advantage, but I think the Raid on Mar A Lago is a game changer.

Agreed. When Andrew-fricking-Cuomo comes out and warns the Democratic party about the optics of this, you know it's bad.
I agree with the DeSantis thought as well. With Trump soaking up so many of the attention bullets, DeSantis is able to do things which would otherwise have shocked and rallied the Left (and its cohorts in the media) against him. Instead, all they are focused on is "we gotta stop Trump".
It's like they are a one-armed man in a boxing match against Ali in his prime. Defending against a punch from one direction means a punch from the other direction is definitely getting through.
This is why I have loathed all of the Trump v. DeSantis threads. We should be fricking giddy at having (potential) candidates as strong as these two running and whichever wins, the loser throws all of his support behind him. This is the way.

He's a republican that isn't part of the beltway class. If he remains so, he'll be subject to the Trump treatment. The gates have been opened.
