I think Goodell has the blessing of the other owners to bring the hammer on Watson bc they were pissed at how Cleveland structured his contract to where he wouldn’t lose much money this season if he was suspended. Essentially enticing him to go there with the ridiculous guaranteed money down the road. Watson stood to lose about $300k this season which is nothing and no fine was even issued. If he’s out for this year, Cleveland once again made fools of themselves. I can’t see him being the same player after not playing for 2 entire seasons and his cap hit becomes extraordinary after next year I think.

Honestly if he is out for there year, smart on Cleveland. They can tank and then get high draft picks that they don’t have to waste on taking a chance on a QB. They can go need or BPA.

and you think no other teams had this same
strategy when trading for a player that has a guaranteed but undetermined suspension in the future?

That's not why the owners were pissed, most have done it several times to "help" players about to get suspended. The owners are pissed because at the same time Clev reset the QB market rate & made it 100% guaranteed. The NFL wants to avoid those guarantees as much as possible so they can keep making splash headlines with contracts they have no intention of keeping the player through.

In regards to Goodell saying he has the evidence; I don't believe him. 2 jurisdictions and an arbitrator have essentially said the evidence is either not strong enough or not there. But, it would not be the first time RG made some sort of fabricated statement about having some sort of evidence that does not exist
