We killed 200,000 women, children and non-combatants. I have an issue with that. The Japanese were defeated at that point in the war. Even if you were going to demonstrate what you were capable of you could have picked military target which was not loaded with civilians.

I have no pleasure in the deaths of anyone.

Yes, the Japanese were defeated, however, they were determined to fight down to the last woman, child, anyone.

The Japs are still a very militaristic society( you just don't see it in the open) and adhere the Bushido code.

We would have taken hundreds of thousands of casualties had we invaded mainland Japan.

The Japanese(men, women, children) would have suffered millions of casualties.

It became very obvious the US military brass and others, that the Japs would fight to the last person, especially after the horrid casualties suffered at Iwo Jima & Okinawa.

Even after the two bombs were dropped on Japan, the Japanese people were determined to fight on.

If not the Japanese Emperor commanding the Japanese people to surrender, the war would have continued on.

Plus the Russians were making a V-line to Japan as well.
