my point was that people at sentencing get to say their piece. nowadays it seems it's all negotiations but I imagined the pleading you ask about as if the parties were all on trial together.
for all I know the whole thing will be negotiated pre trial with pleading to lesser charges.
I just like the idea of a courtroom confession.
