Kidney stone. That’s the only time I’ve vomited from pain
Kidney stone
Was 17
Started as a weird cramp in my back
It lingered, never went away
I stood up from my desk to stretch my back, didn't help. Got worse. Then it got a lot worse. Then it got A LOT worse.
I walked downstairs to call my parents. They didn't answer. By the time I tried to walk upstairs I was reduced to a crawl. I was sobbing. I had no idea what was happening. I thought I was dying. I was writhing around in pain that made me wish for death. I craved it.
I ended up vomiting on the stairs and passing out from the pain. My little sister called me back (I called her after my parents didn't answer), this is what awoke me from my stupor lying in a pool of my own gastric contents.
I ended up army crawling back to my bathroom upstairs hugging the toilet between episodes of howling and crying in pain and vomiting.
Eventually made it to the ER. My urine sample looked like root beer with pieces of tissue paper floating around in it.
I was completely broken. Adrenaline wasted from the pain.
Morphine and dilaudid did nothing for me.
The ONLY drug that gave me relief was Toradol.
If you EVER have a kidney stone. Ask for toradol. It was developed specifically for kidney stones. It decreases the pressure in your ureter and stops the spasming of your ureter and increases its diameter by stopping the inflammation allowing the stone to move along easier. It is nothing but a souped up NSAID (like mega strong advil).
It is SO good that if you give it to someone with weird abdominal/back pain, and it relieves their pain, chances are it's a kidney stone. Just remember that.
But anyway.
How I describe the pain of a kidney stone:
It feels as if someone has carved a hole in your flank with a rusty butter knife and is trying to shove a searing hot brick through this hole. It is indescribable.

I would describe kidney stone pain as a violent cramp deep in your abdomen or lower back that you can’t reach. With a calf cramp, you can stretch and bend toes to alleviate the pain.

quote:When was this stuff invented? If more than 10 years ago I'm gonna be pissed because they didn't tell me anything about it when I had mine. They just gave me a bunch of morphine and I told them it didn't do shite, so then they gave me a bunch of dilaudid and when I told them that didn't do shite either they just fricking let me lay there for an hour before sending me on my way before I passed the stone. Went home and vomited a couple times before passing it that night.
