I understand their frustration but if I go into a restaurant and they want to hold my ID then I’m just leaving.. I’d rather not dine at an establishment that feels their customers are guilty until proven innocent

You're basically opening a tab like you would at a bar.

It is unfortunate that it has come to that for this restaurant, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

What does that have to do with anything?? It does not hurt you at all to provide an idea or credit card. It's not like they are going to steal it and not give it back...
If a customer steals food, that's $ they're never getting back
