6-24 @Virginia Tech. The latter of which, the Canes led 26-10 in the 4th
VT had the ball down 2 with a couple of minutes to go near midfield.

and I’m seeing only 2 close games. 18-7 @Boston College
7-5 BC was down 12-7 and had the ball I believe inside the Miami 10 yardline with around :20 seconds to go.

There's probably a long list of national champs who never had 1 game that close in the 4th, 2019 LSU certainly doesn't. 2001 Miami has 2, and again, 1 to a 7-5 team where they were 9 yards away from a loss.

The last 20 or so years that’s objectively not true. Almost every undefeated champion has had at least one arse-clinchingly close game

•2001 Miami: Mentioned Earlier

•2002 Ohio State: OT Win in controversial fashion in the Championship

•2005 Texas: Ohio State early in the year and Classic USC game

•2009 Bama: Blocked field goal versus Tennessee at the buzzer and last minute TD @Auburn

•2010 Auburn: Lived on the edge all year and last second field goal in the championship

•2013 Florida State: National Championship vs Auburn

•2018 Clemson: Late rally to beat Syracuse at home

Other than 2019 LSU and 2020 Bama, I’m not seeing any undefeated BCS/Playoff era champions that never had a late 4th quarter 50/50 game. The most in doubt LSUs perfect season came was I guess that 3rd and long late in the 4th at Texas. For Bama it was Ole Miss tying the game up in the early 4th
