Nice to see him having success as a player, but I hope his team never plays good, while he plays for the Rangers.

Texas Rangers are a farm system team - they hardly keep young talented players.

He started off so hot that they put him in the leadoff spot in about his 4th or 5th game. He got injured early on diving for a ball at 3rd so they put him on a 10 day IR that turned into a little more timen than that. The guy they called up to replace him came out of AA ball but he started off just as hot. Rather than move one down when Smith came back they tried finding ways for both to play or they would play one one night and the other the next. Eventually Smith won out.

Yankees trading him ended up being quicker path to MLB for him as well
Don't forget, Josh Jung getting hurt also gave him this opportunity and Rangers are still high on him once he gets healthy but Smith is doing well with his opportunity, Jung might be a guy you can play somewhere else to get his bat in lineup

He has been very good for us. Great plate discipline and great in the field. Hope we have him for a long time.

Yep, the Yankees had a ton of depth in the infield, especially with DJ LaMahieu's ability to play every position at a high level.
