I might be wrong but I don’t think Thompson will be on this team when it’s all said and done. I expect him to hit the portal. For sure if we pick up a few more in the portal. Wilson being one.

I'm complete opposite. If you listen to Jay talk about Thompson, you can tell that Jay wants him to very much be a part of this team and sees great potential in him.
Honestly, his offensive numbers from this season were fine, and if you look at his back end numbers, they were way better, which showed Jay's impact on his development. If he improves on them any it will be awesome.
Defense is where he struggles; but the tools are there for him to be good in the field. Maybe a position change away from SS will be what he needs.

The deadline to hit the portal and be eligibly to play next season was July 1st. His name would have shown up in the portal by now if he would have wanted to transfer. If he would go in the transfer portal he would have to have a waiver cleared to be able to play next season. Not sure what type of waivers are approved but I would think it would have to be such thing as a coaching change.
Beside all of that, Jay really likes Thompson and what he is capable of doing. He is also known as a leader among the locker room. I don't think he will be going anywhere.
