So what should he have done differently? Start Safford? Bianco? Travinski?

I could maybe argue putting Gio or Bianco in left after Dugas got hurt to make the outfield marginally better defensively. Moving Doughty to 3rd might have helped, but who plays 2nd and what do you do with Berry? Sorry, I just don’t see any viable options on the roster that Johnson played a minimal role in assembling.

It’s not about switching players around, especially since you returned 3/4 of your infield. . That’s the desperation move.

It’s about the off-season emphasis, or lack thereof, that was put on defense. I think we as LSU fans had taken for granted the defensive teams that PM rolled out. I’m sure that standard was not easy to uphold, but damn they made it look easy. I appreciate it so much more after this season,

But do we really know there wasn’t any emphasis on defense in the off-season? Admittedly I didn’t attend any fall practice or scrimmages like others did. I merely followed Scuba’s updates. I don’t remember defense being an issue in those scrimmages. So what changed from then to the regular season, I guess would be the better question.

You gonna pretend the defense that JJ inherited from PM this year was pretty much the same guys that sucked on defense the previous year under PM?
