Yeah, id say a more accurate description would be “he overlooked the defense”.
Id be curious what they did in practice and how it was developed in the offseason.
I know they worked those kids to the bone to fix it in season, and i think it got alot better towards the end. I think it progressed because johnson did an about face mid season to get them in gear defensively. But you could see it looked bad early in the season

He absolutely prioritizes bats over gloves, and that’s always going to be the case. To suggest he doesn’t care about defense is absurd though.
A coach who doesn’t care about defense starts McManus day 1 and never toys with the positions, particularly in the MIF.
