But I was told that Lightyear bombed because moms and kids were not ready to return to theaters.

What a load of bullshite. Don't come in here with those lies. It was clear after the first weekend that Lightyear was a box office bomb.

Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and other film sites all said it bombed mainly because of the pandemic and that families weren't ready to return to theaters yet.

As the weeks have gone by their narrative has constantly changed: Maybe it was no Tim Allen? Maybe it was the story? Maybe audiences were confused? They don't want to admit the real reason.

The truth is this Minions movie isn't even that good. It is fairly repetitive, and the chase scenes are boring. But it is a safe film and parents feel comfortable taking young children to it. That it is doing so well is a testament to how much people want to get out and go to the movies.

Lightyear would have shattered records if it wasn't for that gay kiss. I know it, you know it, the industry knows it, and even Disney knows it.

Not to derail the political aside, but not really that surprised to hear this. I think this series has gotten progressively weaker. Nothing flat out terrible, just pretty blah with a couple of laughs.
