Bands (and their record producer PR handlers) make logos and graphic designs that appeal to and sell to their young fans.

Fast forward 30 years from when those logos were first produced, and you see them all over the shelves at Target and other big box retailers who are selling familiar things to the middle aged consumers who now have significantly more purchasing power than they had in their teens.

It just so happens that those middle aged people buy things for their own teens, who are not objectionable to wearing a cool looking logo that strangely appeals to them despite not being fully aware of that logo’s origin or the BrAND it represents.

It’s the perfect storm of t-shirt mass appeal, hardly anything to skyscream about.

Back in the 80s you could go to a concert for someone like Mötley Crüe, Poison, Def Leppard, etc. for about $20 a ticket. Most of the time the concert would be general admission. Once you got there you could buy a tour t-shirt for $10-$15.
