I think she went there for an ego boost and she thought since these were largely Somalian expats, she was going to get a warm welcome. It was supposed to be good for her image. It backfired on her.

The truth is "her culture" is not one in which a bunch of men appreciate being patronized by women. She doesn't know her place in their culture. She should be backstage serving refreshments, not handing out awards. That's how they see it.
