When my mom was a kid - probably around 1940 - her father was a farm worker. They went to FL for a season of orange picking, and she loves to tell about the panthers and snakes.
One of her stories is about a snake that she swears was 12’ long and so big around that the sticks she and her brothers banged it with didn’t bother it in the least.
I suspect pythons have long been in parts of FL.
