The portable generator set up is good, if you don't have a wife.

Get a liquid cooled generator, less noise, less maintenance, more fuel efficient, and more reliable.

More money too.

Kohler is a good brand as well as cumins.

this

we had a generac in last house, air cooled. air cooled is not made really for the heat of south louisiana. will have lots of issues with teh step up motor if you have to run a couple days like after a cane.

liquid cooled is how i will go next time.

next time
I don't know when my next time will be, but I've got my fingers crossed that by then there will be a market for relatively cheap "spent" EV battery packs to be repurposed for home energy storage. If the cost of solar for 100% of my usage plus ~3 days of battery storage is within $10-15k or so of a whole-home natgas generator, I'm going to have to go solar+batteries given that would save me ~$2500/year in electricity bills. Also it wouldn't cost me an extra $40/day in gas when I need the backup power.

Mine ran for 7 days after Ida

I just shut it down every evening for a few minutes to check the oil then fired it back up.
