Any recommendations on public courses for a vacation in august? Thank you in advance

Harborside is going to be the closest to the city
Lost Marsh is about 30-45 min away but is a great course in Hammond, IN.

The Glen Club is really nice. I played Cog Hill a few years ago and honestly, I would never go back. Everything about the experience was a let down - course, clubhouse, carts, etc...

To the ones already mentioned, add Cantigny out in Wheaton. Ravisloe is an old Southside Donald Ross that was private until a few years ago. Cool course as well.
You’re going to have a bit of a drive no matter what if you’re staying close to downtown.

Stayed in the loop a couple years ago and took the train to Ravisloe. Took about an hour which was a cool ride through the south side. They will send a cart to the station to pick you up. Had a great time on a really fun course. Great hot dog at the turn.

It really depends how far you want to travel, I don't love the public golf scene in Chicago and everything is just so hard to get to from the city.
I will say that as far as city park courses go, sydney marovitz is a fun little 9 hole park course. Zero amenities tho.
Thunderhawk is my favorite public course but it is a good hour from the city if not more. Stonewall Orchard is also great but again 1 hr plus. And then if you are really willing to travel, Lake Geneva has a ton of great courses that are way better than everything in Chicago, Grand Geneva is my favorite.
I like Ravisloe more than Cog Hill. Harborside/Lost Marsh are both totally fine too.

Any course in the area is great. They grow grass and cut grass. Greens anywhere will be almost perfect.
