I dont tell many people this but I launched a Volkswagen beetle into orbit when I was 12.

It depends largely on the weight of the object to be orbited. Even before sputnik, ballistic objects were fired into orbit from high altitude balloons, I remember reading about it in grade school. The transceiver would be the problem, not sure how it could survive being fired through a barrel.
