re: OT Take on LBJ

JFK offered LBJ the Vice Presidential spot as a courtesy. He figured that LBJ, being Senate Majority Leader, would decline the offer, as his present position was more powerful than VP (at the time). And if, I'm not mistaken, LBJ had indicated that he wasn't particularly interested in taking the slot, as he wasn't getting any younger and it would put an end to his future presidential ambitions.

When he unexpectedly accepted, JFK, Joe Sr., and RFK closeted themselves for a whole day in Joe Sr's study in Hyannis Port, trying to brainstorm their way out of the deal. They could never come up with one.
