I guess I'll fully lean into not picking up on everything in the show. It's the constant of the show that Tommy is pretty much ready for everyone that is trying to frick him over. Season 5 was one of the only outliers. Do we know how Tommy knew Michael would have a bomb in a trunk waiting for him, that the IRA would be the ones to come after Arthur on that Sunday (I know the point of Arthur saying he would be there was to lure them out, but how did they know there was a mass conspiracy coming), or that Billy was a rat? Maybe they knew Billy was a rat from last season and just kept him around to use him to get info to the other side that they wanted. I still can't remember an indication of how Tommy knew there would be a bomb used on him in Miquelon.

Tommy made a point to tell everyone this season how he was already ahead of them in his scheming. I think we are to assume this is the same and he just has eyes/ears everywhere, and his younger, dumber family can't outsmart him.

I think a lot of his info was coming from Alfie and the East Boston Jews. They mentioned a rat in the Nelson gang in the first episode back, so I think they were implying Tommy had connections into the Americans' organization that they weren't aware of.
And the Nelson clan had all the IRA info since they were getting into bed with them via shipping guns
I agree that they left the interpretation too wide open, since it did appear like Tommy just had prescient knowledge from above to end the season.

Didn't he sent Johnny Dogs over earlier to scout things out & he's the one who switched the bomb/left the mark on the car door to warn him?
