Southern Company (SO) To End Coal Burning?

I own a disproportionately large number of their shares in my portfolio for a variety of different reasons that made sense in the past.
Then I see this article today on the other boards that they are closing all their coal plants in the southeast.
Does anyone know what/how/when they are planning to replace them with? The timeline of their announced closures is only a couple years, you can't even build nukes that fast even if you had permits and property in hand.
Is this a sell now?

News of this broke in November. I think its just their dirtiest plants, but have read elsewhere that its 80% of their coal burning fleet.
Southern Co people I know don't sound concerned, but we will see.

Every regulated utility is phasing out coal by 2030, so it's not specific to Southern. There's a lot of factors (political, engineering, financial, etc.) leading to coal plants' being retired en masse but retiring coal assets is not a surprise in the utility industry.
Old plants can be replaced with modern combined cycle natural gas turbine plants, which are much more efficient (like 200%+) than coal plants that are likely 30+ years old.

Yea but the word on the street is most utilities are getting away from the big arse 800+ mw CCGT. Too hard on the grid when one drops, push very little VARS, still hydrocarbon based, etc.
You’re going to see a lot of these small nuclear facilities built soon. Well, unless hydrogen burners come a long in the next 4-5 years, which I doubt.

Federally mandated brown outs seem likely. What could go wrong with pushing EV's while closing power plants?

No idea how much of an impact this will have but shouldn't Vogtle be running soon? For real this time
