Headed to Africa later in the summer, and was curious if there are strong schools of thought surrounding the "competing" anti-malarials. I'm just assuming to go the Malarone route, but would like any info anyone has. TIA!

I did Doxycycline

Not sure you’ll really tell much difference no matter what you pick . Don’t recall having any GI issues as that’s the worst part of those meds .

The one I took in 2002 on my first trip to India, hurt my stomach so bad I never took it again. Of course I was staying in 5 star hotels, so it was absurd for our HR to recommend it anyway. Are you going to an area where malaria is prevalent?

Depends on what part of Africa, the resistance pattern varies. Check the WHO maps and see what’s going on where you’ll be visiting.

If you take Malarone before you go to sleep you’re going to have an interesting night

I thought it was the other one - Larium - that had the crazy dreams.

Headed to Kenya and Tanzania.
