Ex wife's family is from there, so I've spent lots of time in Bastrop. But this was 30-40 years ago, it was much different I assume. Didn't seem terrible then.

Back then there was a giant International Paper Mill planted right in the middle of town. Bastrop was prosperous, and it was an nice pretty nice place to live. The mill left about 10 years ago and sucked all the life out of the town. Now it's a shithole of despair.

Of course it didn't, you admitted that it was 30-40 years ago. There have been 3 generational cycles since then. In some households, there are 40 something y/o great-grandmothers, 30 something y/o grandmothers, teenage moms w/ newborn kids. This is learned behavior.
