I have a farm in SE Alabama and have a well prepared site around an RV that I want to grow some grass. I have no well at the site so no irrigation. What is the best grass to sod in or plug in where the only water is from rainfall?

I have had St. Aug for my entire adult life. Am 55. I have watered less than 5 times, and some of that was during a 100 year drought.

Bermuda. It will brown out during an extensive drought but green up once it rains.

I mean I don't like the look of commom but in terms of the shite just popping up and growing everywhere it is fantastic.

If you want common Bermuda from my experience the best way is to try to grow anything else then sit back and watch it eat.

Anywhere on the gulf coast you are going to get some afternoon showers during the summer. As a result, pretty much every turf grass would grow well. Just depends on what you want. I have only ever dealt with centipede and st Augustine. St Augustine is a voracious grower, so if you want to cover the yard quickly or cover bare spots, I would plant st Augustine. St Augustine seems to be better in shade. Centipede is slower growing, but doesn’t require fertilizer and you won’t have to cut centipede but every two or three weeks.

That’s a good point. Go buy a 5lb bag of centipede and you’ll have common bermuda by the time you get home.
