In order to fly back to the US the CDC clearly states you must test negative within 24 hours. There used to be a section for land/sea travel they allowed negative test within 5 days. Now that section is missing completely. Does anyone know for sure what the negative test requirement is now for ferry travel back to USVI?

I know at Canada and Mexico land borders, there’s no negative test requirement if you’re vaccinated I think. Maybe the same applies to USVI?

My boat captain is telling me it’s now a 24 hour negative test requirement but the CDC doesn’t mention boat travel specifically anymore.

I thought there was a thread not too long ago on this board that said they removed the covid restrictions from BVI. I could be mistaken though.

ETA:

USVI Thread on COVID req. dropped.

BVI Thread on COVID req.

This does say to enter BVI's you still need a negative test within 5 days.

The BVI hasn’t changed anything. They still require a negative test within 48 hours to go there. The USVI has changed their requirements a little but made it more vague. They took away the travel portal which helps a little but now made testing more urgent coming back.

You clearly cannot read. The requirement says no more than one day prior to returning to the US, not "within 24 hours."

It boggles my mind how people will do their own research for such an important matter but will ask unknown strangers of unknown credibility.

I have some friends going to Europe this month for 3 weeks. They plan to rent a car and travel. I asked them LAST WEEKEND what all that entails. They had no clue. I’m sure it’s not hard, but neither is making sure.

Last week it said within 5 days for sea ferry travel back go US. Now it only mentions air travel. Show me where I can’t read.

This was published on May31.

If you are traveling to the US Virgin Islands from an international location, American or not, you will still have to show proof of vaccination and proof of a negative COVID test taken within 24 hours of arrival. The test can be a PCR or rapid test. These requirements are applicable to travelers coming from the British Virgin Islands. International travelers will also still be required to fill out the travel portal documents.

Yet as of today I talked to three ferry companies and the port of St John in Cruz Bay who said there was no longer a negative test required. The CDC website only mentions air travel but refers you to the Homeland Security site for land/sea ports which clearly states no covid testing required.

The rules keep changing and the people aren’t sure how to enforce them.
