The Army coach is great at the end…you almost want Army to advance. “They’ll be in the woods next week if this ends here.”

I grew up with a guy that played at Air Force. They don’t get any special treatment that no one else at those schools get. I have a lot of respect for people that go to those academies in general but especially the athletes.

I went to a small college for undergrad. It wasn't military, but I can assure you, the athletes there don't get UNC-style "African-American Studies" courses either, they have to take the same classes as regular students. I was in classes with quite a few of them.

I'm fine with Army as the runner up

Looks like southern miss is starting tanner hall against army, thats a break for us

Meh. Riggins is a vet. Least scary guy of their 3 starters, but can still be trouble. Waldred is electric, though, so I wouldn't put it past them rolling the dice with him. If we're healthy, I don't think it matters who they throw - we're gonna score.
ETA: Army has a solid lefty that may be tough on USM.

No doubt. I meant more so all the training exercises and everything. The time commitment at a military academy is much more than a regular school and then add even more on top of that.

This was always my concern with HC Scott Berry. He is robotic when it comes to pitching. It’s absolutely looney tunes that we are throwing Hall against Army. 1st team All American against Army?? Southern Miss is not the least bit interested in winning this Regional. frick!

Very true. Adding all the training stuff, along with a full athletic schedule, would have worn me out.

I disagree somewhat. Army has a tough LH that could give the USM lineup problems. Go with your gun. You can't be 1-0 unless you beat Army. Also, Riggins is a savvy vet and Waldrep has wipe out stuff...so you're still in a good spot for game 2 and beyond if Hall cruises. It gets way trickier for USM if they blow through guys too early - same goes for LSU.
ETA: This regional boils down to LSU v USM, barring an implosion by one of the 2 on day 1 and/or an offensive outburst by Army/Kennesaw St. LSU and USM have to get through day 1 here, then you can start turning the wheels on strategy (maybe even start turning those wheels early in day 1 if you're completely cruising). Army and Kennesaw St are a threat on day 1 only, and maybe only a portion of day 1. They don't have the pitching to be a threat beyond day 1, regardless.

I like it for several reasons. Hall is not THAT much better than Waldrep. Especially of late. We really have co-number 1 pitchers. Both were invited to the US National Team. Yes, thats not a typo.
So you get Hall in to hopefully beat Army. If you jump on Army and get way ahead, you can pull Hall early and have him throw some on Monday or even Sunday if needed. You have your co-number 1 throw against LSU, with Riggins left. Also, Hall is from Zachary and really amped to throw against LSU. Never know how a kid is going to react. Better suited to throw first game, as usual, get the win, save the arm and go from there.
