My neighbor is a first officer for a major airline who's been flying this same aircraft for 29 years. He had to switch to a different plane during the scale back in 2020 and had to go through FAA required training and check flights for that aircraft and flew mostly cargo flights domestically and internationally while the industry was coming back in 2021. They opened back up his original aircraft for him to fly and he had to go through FAA required re-certification training even though he has flown this aircraft for years and has been waiting for 3 months for his 4 leg check ride. Problem is there aren't enough check ride pilots to cover the number of re-certified pilots and new pilots to meet the demand.
