Ive been withholding any judgment against the cops because i know nothing about their SOPs.

An active shooter situation is different than a hostage situation. A hostage situation can turn into an active shooter situation. If there is a gunfight, getting innocent children/faculty away before the fight could be a strategy.

But this reporting is a pretty blunt blow against the police and the entire concept of training exercises and leadership.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

You never know how you’re going to act until you’re in that position. Generally you can train yourself to just react without thinking but that takes hundreds/thousands of hours of training to overcome your natural fears/doubts.

Without sufficient training to help you overcome it, you’ll look for any excuse not to. That’s what I legitimately believe happened here.

One became two then two became four and so on. They froze out of self preservation and we ended up with this.

I’m in no way giving the dept or the officers the out bc they should be held accountable, although I’m not sure how, criminally speaking.
