re: If Crews had initially been called out, would the review have overturned the call?

NO! That play was as close as you could get at the plate.
I'm surprised ump didn't call him out. He must not have liked the Kentucky catcher too much.... I'm sure they didn't have a lot to talk about rest of game after that play. LOL

Agree. Had he been called out on the field, the video would have been considered inconclusive/not obvious to over turn IMHO, as it was very difficult to tell when the catcher's glove made contact with the runner.

The call was confirmed by the review. That means they determined there was conclusive evidence we was safe. I don’t know how some of you aren’t getting this.

If the play was a Wildcat called safe, EVERYONE on this site would have gone ballistic. And with cause because this is a homer site. It’s over and also the constant crying, too, over balls and strikes calls is really caustic. I believe this call was correct after review but to say it’s “clearly” a safe call is amusing. There are bang bang calls in every game and they all are not supposed to be our way but many here think so. Umps blow some and reviews even blow some but we only have to hope they don’t affect the final outcome.

This is the telling, and critical, piece of information. The call was not "upheld" meaning that the video didn't show much either way. It was "confirmed" meaning that the video crew saw enough evidence to make the same call of player safe touching the plate before the catcher's mitt made physical contact.
If he had been called out on the field and then gone to review, that determination of "confirmed" means that they would have seen evidence to "OVERTURN" an out call and correctly call Crews safe at home before the tag.
It was a very athletic slide with great body control to roll away from the catcher while still reaching for the plate. Outstanding play from an outstanding player in a big moment. That's what you love to see as a fan. Geaux Tigers!

Then the ump would have said play stands not confirmed. Wording from the ref/ump after a replay tells you what they saw.
I think it is pretty obvious that the glove first touches Crew around the belt after he already touched the plate.

Not sure about the review but the ump had the best view of the play. He was standing right over Crews when he made the call.
