Oh, I think it collects TV money... might not get high ratings, but I'm pretty sure the NCAA and various conferences leverage it WITH football.
Take the SEC Network (which is ESPN); I'm pretty sure Alabama football would survive just fine on their own. Bama would probably make even MORE money, if anything. But the SEC Network is set up to protect baseball, softball, volleyball, Vanderbilt
etc. And in return, they get to televise football and basketball games too.
