If you can get the best 3 and D player in the league (Klay comparison) is that worth the first pick? probably so, most years. I think that is was SFP is talking about when he said you know you aren’t getting the best player. But Klay is the best “3 and D” player of all time so it would be a little ambitious to expect smith to be Klay.

Yeah I 100% think Smith is the easy 1.1, but I think it has to be in the back of every GM's head that he's not more likely than not to be the best guy in the draft. People have turned this into me hating on him and I'm not. The same issues apply to the other 2 guys in the top tier, also, and it's easy for people to accept that argument (if either of them goes #1).

And I almost made a "taller Klay" comp in OP so I think most everyone agrees what his likely ceiling is, other than that one guy.
