I was discussing the ST George thing with someone who lives in St George the other day. They have kids in the magnet schools, guess what, they are against it bc their kids are in good free public schools. This whole equity in education thing they are pushing had
them apoplectic.

The problem with the magnet system is that it is a lottery. You get in and you are set, you don’t get in and you are scrambling to find a private school with a spot or moving to another district.

That shite is sustainable for a period of time but the two-tier system of magnet and D-F schools is killing the system because there is no reason to stick around unless you get into the magnets.

Biggest single problem is that people are so invested in the status quo (parents w magnet kids, teachers and school system with money in shitty underperforming schools) that no one wants to take a risk.

St George is happening specifically because people tried to fix things and were told “Go make your own school system”.
