He has succeeded well so far. He is pretty much getting all of his oil and gas exports paid in his own curreny now. Thats gonna prove very smart when the us dollar crashes.

It is also often said that at a very minimum the perception of {measurable}victory to his peoples is a mandatory end result for Putin, or all bets are off. Presidency probably even on the line over that.
