the food industry does not actually pay per hour
What are you on about? Almost every fast casual pays per hour for line employees. Every fast food restaurant pays by the hour. And they’re starting at $12/hr minimum. Often $14-$15/hr.

the restaurant pays 10/hr
you work 10 hours
you make $50 in tips
restaurant pays $50 to make up the difference
if you make $100 or more in tips,
restaurant pays NOTHING
they do not pay minimum wage, they only cover the distance between it and tips
