When I’m off the fairway and have to hit something low or high or through some trees, I seem to almost always pull it off by hitting exactly what I envisioned. However, when hitting a shot from the middle of the fairway, I’m not able to conjure up that same level of concentration and execution. Drives me crazy. No matter how much I try, I can’t do it. Anyone else have this same issue?

Your expectations are higher from the middle of the fairway.

I also believe it's because you have a close point of reference for your mind. There is a tree limb 30 yards ahead 10 feet off the ground. Your body has an idea of what to do to get the ball under it. When you are in the fairway and you want to draw it 20 yards off of a target 150 yards away, the mind can't visualize it as easily.

What is your consistent miss? When in the trees, do you take a flatter club and swing softer?
You likely have a more focused path when you have a smaller target. You focus on the fundamentals more when you don't have any margin to miss.
My miss is to slice the ball right in this situation. Not getting the club face closed.

Yes, I’ll normally take a flatter club, very aware of my backswing length and tempo. From the fairway, I feel I’m too mechanical.

Normally right. A push, not a slice.

Expectation has alot to do with it too. When you're in a tricky spot, you hope it turns out well but dont always expect it too = less pressure.
When your center cut and you know you can make the shot = more pressure... more pressure typically causes me to tense up and I do something out of sync

Narrow your focus and become more target oriented.

Thanks for all the advice.

You need this on every single golf shot you hit.
Your brain cannot focus on something 200 yards away, nor can you align to something accurately 200 yards away. You have to pick an intermediate target to focus on and get aligned to.
You can hit good shots through trees because you have a target close to you and in front of you that your brain sees.

I heard someone talking about this recently, I forget where. It has something to do with envisioning the shot and just hitting it as opposed to trying to trying to make a perfect swing from the fairway so you don't frick it up.
