Just curious if market movement is mostly based on computers running algorithms all day causing trades vs actual human interaction buying and selling. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I think algorithms just because all 50 some stocks on my watch list spike/dip at the same exact time very often lining up with spikes/dips in major indices. Just a hunch

I once saw a stat that said about 75% of trading is done by algorithms.

No idea if that’s true, but I can at least theoretically buy it.

Most algorithmic trading is done for routing and liquidity purposes, I believe.

Worked with a guy with no financial background. He paid a ton of money to develop a program that he could day trade on algorithms. He has made good money starting with smaller amounts trading 50+ trades per day(all usually the first 20 minutes of market open). I would imagine a lot of big money, which may be much smarter, is trading much larger volumes swinging stocks a lot more than than people think.

Who was that kid prodigy someone posted in here a while back that had a large following and a paid service for daily calls. I remember him saying all his trades were usually in the first 20min every day

Be interesting to see how he’s doing in this market today
