Zion needs to be kept happy by whatever means necessary.

As Corso would say, "not so fast!".

As fans, we will likely never know the full story. Griffin can come across as a salesman, which makes him easy to view as dishonest, while Zion has that "aw shucks" innocent quality about him, which leads to people initially giving him the benefit of the doubt. Over time, that has worn away. Now it is easier to consider Zion/his camp as being the cause of much of the contention.

Zion truly has the potential to be a historic player but it is something he has to truly want. If he is willing to submit to the experts and invest in what is going on with the Pels, he gets paid max money. If he fails to buy in, it undermines everything. Given our current roster and situation, you would have to consider trading him and moving forward with assets willing to buy in.
