The Samsung ice makers have a small heater built into them that's supposed to have stopped the problem, but it didn't. We paid for a five year extended warranty, and the repairmen had to come out a couple of times each year. They replaced three of those heaters. I never understood how it was helping anyway.

The repair guys told us the design of the fridge, with the icemaker inside the refrigerator causes the freezing up. It's in the fridge so you can get ice and water in the dooor, outside the fridge. One thing that causes the freezing up problem is when you put warm leftovers in the frige it causes condensation that freezes up. On the repairmen's recommendation, we always let leftovers cool down for 20-30 minutes before putting them in. The thing still froze up, possibly just because someone held the door open while getting out multiple items.

The repair company was a locally owned store that a buddy owned. His sons were the guys coming to fix the fridge. Lowes customers kept the repair end of their business really busy.
