There is a reason why you don't see the same results in countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, etc. In those countries people who are different are forced into "setting aside those differences". The output is not nearly as comparable .

No.
Assimilation into a superior, more productive culture works better.
That force is a byproduct of an inferior, less productive culture.
The myth is that diversity is a strength when people assume that we're talking about mixing up different cultures and getting that positive output. Diversity is a strength within a positive culture where you have diverse people who want to assimilate within that culture. They bring certain perspectives and outlooks that can help a super monolithic culture lose its blinders and develop positively.
However, this myth that all cultures are equal and should be respected promotes the associated myth that "diversity is a strength" means that large populations with different cultures end up more positive and that's just hogwash.
