We watched it today. Loved it. Detective Batman, brutal Batman, internally and externally heavily-scarred Bruce Wayne.
I see this as a sort of stand-alone like Logan. Good strong story and complete.
Batman was dark very early in his creation, then again when Roy Thomas and Neal Adams got him under control in the early 70s. They got down to the darkness and took him back to the night stories. They were great. Hate that sold all my copies.
And to those who don’t think the Riddler was creepy enough, imagine THAT motherfricker sending out videos to you showing himself to you in that mask. Or ANY mask, for that matter. It would distress my gastrointestinal system for life.

I thought this was the best Batman movie.
There are things I don’t really care for in it, but it hits the high notes pitch perfect. I like the menace within Batman and how various people perceive him. I thought the Riddler was finally done right. The car chase with the Penguin was solid. I cared more about this Batman than other versions of him.
And unlike some people, I like the longer run time. Sure, you can chop it down and make it more efficient, but why? I’m cool with living in that world a little longer. Let Batman’s footsteps echo while the menacing music plays for a good long while. I’m not going anywhere.
