My Dexter season 3 plot theory
Posted on 10/13/08 at 4:21 pm
Posted on 10/13/08 at 4:21 pm
minor spoilers if you havent seen the first 3 eps
my thoughts are:
-assistant DA's brother was trying to kill Freebo when Dexter walked in, which is fairly obvious
-assistant DA was going to kill Freebo at his girlfriends house, however Dexter beat him to it
-putting it together, I think that the ADA and his brother were doing something similar to Dexter, where they kill those who get away from the judicial system, with the ADA's brother doing to Dexter role and the ADA researching and his other brother (the sheriff) helping with leads
-ADA is now working Dexter to see if he can replace the role that his brother played. ADA said Dexter has a lot of "potential"
thoughts?

hmmm...interesting theory. hadn't thought of it quite like that. it's a bit of a reach though.

i have no idea what is going to happen.
what i do know though is that jimmy smits character is a bad dude who dexter is going to end up taking out.

Got a feeling that this wasn't Smit's first rodeo. Smits is a killer.
Also, bank on Rita losing the baby somehow. No way they allow this show to go all mushy and soften "the killer".

That sounds interesting. But does Dexter become a hypocrite and kill the new ADA for what he's doing

I doubt Rita loses the baby because there is too much plot development that can be done as a result of the baby happening.
One thing that is going to come up eventually, especially with the baby happening, is whether Dexter will move in with Rita. That will seriously cramp his style.

not a bad theory based on something in the news recently:
Spoiler warning:
Someone posted an article stating that Jimmy Smits almost accidentally stabbed to death an actor on set a week or so ago. The scene had someone tied up and Smits' character took a knife (accidentally a real one, not prop) and stabbed the tied up actor who had mouth taped (breast plate saved his life). This could mean Smits' character is assisting Dexter in a killing. We'll see.

good call, I saw that last week but didnt think of it when I made my first post
based on that, Smits obviously is a shady guy
I just wonder how that relationship between Dexter and Smits will end.

My theory is that Smits will either kill or ask Dexter to kill someone based on not enough proof for Dexter's code. Dexter will be forced into a situation where he either kills the framed bad guy or his kills Smits.
We already have foreshadowing of that with Smits not letting new information come to light that would lead to the release of the guy he just convicted.

Smits is dirty, no doubt about that.
I would say that will probably be his end.
Dexter will forge a friendship with him and they will find out each others secrets and in doing so Dexter will realize that he is corrupt and offing people that really dont deserve it and thus he will kill Smits.

I think the "code" is not something to be taken as concrete anymore. That was his big revelation at the end of last season - the person who wrote the code (Harry) was flawed.
Killing the pedophile this week was an example of his changing. His code only covered those who had taken a life, something his victim hadn't. He's evolving a bit to write his own code.
As to thoughts - I agree Smits is going to end up as a bad buy. I'm pegging him doing some lose vigilante work and he may already be doing it. It's like the annoying bitch from last season. Dexter will have a friend (or something like it) that will have to go at the end. Dexter works best on his own, but these interactions serve to evolve him. I'll also predict Smits is killed, but not by Dexter.

*Spoiler*
Yes, Dexter's "code" has already shown signs of evolving. We've already seen him kill Oscar Prado - "someone of whose guilt [he] wasn't absolutely certain" - Freebo, who may end up being "innocent," and the pedophile, who never took a life but threatens "Dexter's" kids. Notice the third episode didn't even show the usual face-to-face encounter with the tied-up perp.
Dexter will have to ask himself whether what he's doing is any nobler than what ADA Prado appears to be doing - ignoring/fabricating evidence to make convictions stick. How much has Dexter's code changed since Harry handed it down to him? Is it arbitrary, objective? Are there people who deserve to die? Or does Dexter decide who lives and who dies? And does that make him any better than the people he kills? How will he justify it to himself?
My prediction:
I agree, Prado is dirty. I also think he knows about Dexter's crown from episode one. My guess is he has a crime scene photo that only he knows about which includes the tooth. I do think that this relationship with Dexter is some kind of recruiting mission for Prado. He wants Dexter to a) help him manipulate evidence to convict his suspects and/or b) kill the "guilty" suspects who manage to slip by Prado's prosecution, and will use the photo in attempt to blackmail Dexter (not to mention he knows Dexter killed Freebo and hid his body).
Anyone else see the series ending with Dexter's suicide?

im a serious dexter fan since season one ive seen all of the shows.....
...im not sure the ada does this type of vigilante work because remember he was crying in his vehicle before he got out...portraying that he was nervous and scared to do it.....a personlike u describe wont think twice, in fact he would be licking his chops to do it....
...i do think that ada has something up his sleeve and somehow the link with the drugs will come into play that ada and his sheriff brother are involved in....or the ada will discover dexter and use it as fuel to do vigilante work.......or dexter will simply end up killing both the ada and his brother for their crooked activities that result in murder.....
...i think dexter is evovling somewhat but its a little confusing because when he killed prado it was self defense........when he killed the pedofile he was having unsure thoughts of killing him and then he saw his kid's on the pc screen he was looking at....on the other side...the kids on screen was all the motivation he needed....
...prado the ada will eventually use dexter in ways that dexter will not like and try to use his murdering of freebo as leverage.......
either way this season will be off the hook..

Something no one is taking into account is the ADA's brother (the one Dexter killed) owed Freebo a lot of money. IMO the Prada brothers aren't clean at all. In fact they might be part of the new murders where the victims are losing a chunk of flesh. I think they both end up dead like their brother. Also something is up with Quinn and the informant. Haven't really figured out what though. Quinn might already be the "snitch" they are trying to get the sister to be.

something is definitely up with Quinn, hes got to be doing something illegal or dirty
I dont think Quinn is a snitch. I think its Quinn that the internal investigation lady wants the sister to get info on.
