After having lost some electronic equipment due to lightning several years back, I've just gotten into the habit of unplugging my expensive electronics, even though I've got a whole-house surge protector as well as plug-in surge protectors for the electronics. Anyone else do the same?

My Grandfather had a nightly routine when I was growing up, he would unplug the TV and VCR every night before he went to bed, even in the winter.

I don't doubt that many of the older generation did the same, LOL. Problem for me is that my main entertainment center is quite large and having to move it away from the wall to unplug the power strip behind it is way too much trouble. So I have to reach back behind my tv and unplug individual components from the power strip which is not fun either. Of course a surge could come through my Directv antenna and go through my directv box which is connected to all of my electronic equipment via coax or HDMI cables, so I'm still not totally protected by simply unplugging the power cord!
