He claimed that the money was expense money that he had not yet turned in to the athletic dept. And as I recall, it was for Chris Jackson's mother. One of the many reasons the NCAA hammered Dale so harshly after chasing him for yrs. He was smarter than Wade when it came to the "process" of cheating but his hate back at the NCAA is what motivated the NCAA to keep after him. He once was quoted on the front page of Sports Illustrated, at a time when it was a nationally recognized publication, as calling them "Those Gestapo Bastards".

Sort of. While on the road, he had cashed an expense check given to him by the university, as well as cashed a personal income tax refund check. He had paper work to back it up, and as Abernathy put it, who would be dumb enough to call the police if you had illegal cash stolen from your vehicle. It was investigated by the NCAA and LSU was cleared of any wrongdoing.

It had nothing to do with a player, and it was well before his time. This was in 1982. Link to the article below.
