If you can do rudimentary maintenance, dealer support is negligible for homeowners.
LOL, as a dealer we do nearly $3 mil annually in parts and labor, but no they don’t need us. We keep 9 mechanics busy working 40hrs a week year round, but they don’t need us. We run 2 pickup/delivery trucks full time just to pickup and deliver customers mowers for service, but they don’t need us. That’s with 80% residential customer business, most large commercial operations have their own service departments. We do all that and we only service 3 mower brands.
Many customers can’t even route a belt correctly. Many customers would rather pay us to service their mower while they play golf or fish. Not everyone needs a dealer but ask the guy who has a brand with no place for service if he wishes he’d bought from a dealer.

Mowers aren't these high tech computerized gadgetry that need a wizard to maintain. I had a bunch of fed contracts (I'm a vet) and state and business contracts and I only called a dealer if something was WAY out of whack.
And I did all of the maintenance and I'm not a mechanic, just a guy that gives a damn.
ETA--there are enough youtube videos out there for a moron to diagnose and fix 90% of the problems on a mower. That should never sway a buyer that gives a shite about his equipment.

I agree with Wilson Pickett I made a nice living over along time and 90% of my service dept work orders were residential customers.
Something small as pickup, delivery, tracing electrical for a bad switch, carb cleaning/ fuel solenoid switch, or people want parts today.
Homecenter units have a lot more issues even if is the same model. Incorrectly assembled, decks are not level as people keep stepping on them, damaged by the store or customers, battery’s need charging or replaced, water in fuel which I seen blocks seized to the cylinder wall, some need carb cleaning, or they are missing parts as people steal them.
