honestly the role of the executive branch pre-Civil War and the relative power of the federal government versus the power of the state governments in those days was so unrecognizable to how we operate now that it’s a purely academic discussion and not super worthwhile with Buchanan vs Biden. Both were very ineffectual and weak leaders who failed to unite their nation for a common goal. That’s about all I can draw on to even compare the two.
Obviously Buchanan is going to catch immense flak for watching the nation fall apart under his watch and fail to respond with much urgency. But hey, it’s early for Biden. Let’s see what he can do in three more years
