I live in Chicago and love it. Certain areas aside, as you mentioned, it is the best city in the country for 3 months of the year.

The city I appreciate that others might not is Milwaukee. My BiL lives downtown and we visit frequently. We all call it "Chicago without people". Very similar vibe on a much smaller scale; Lakefront, riverfront, great food and beer scene, some very cool trendy areas, but hardly anyone around while walking about, unlike Chicago, and the people that are lean more towards "Wisconsin nice" than those in Chicago.

I don't know that I would want to live there, I am a snooty Chicagoan that has always looked down on Milwaukee, but it is a great place and I love going up there every other month or so.
