The entire reason the Black Bear Recovery Plan was enacted was to get the black bear population high enough to be able to hunt them. We're there now in selected parishes.

If, in the future, federal protection is no longer warranted for the Louisiana black bear, bear harvests based on demographic monitoring data may be established with the approval of the LWFC. If harvests are implemented, they would be altered annually to reflect the previous year's subpopulation dynamics.
