WWII if not for some big logistical mistakes by the Germans, Stalingrad falls, opening up the Caucasus and its oil to Hitler.

Historically Russians do better on the defensive, luring their enemies in further and further like with Napoleon and Hitler and using the vast distances as a weapon to weaken the invading force. Then they would counter attack as the enemy is greatly weakened.

Russia as aggressor....not so well, but then there are few instances of them being the guys who start....except for WWI. At first good gains against the Germans, but then the Germans get their shite together and drive the Russians back . WWI Germans were smart, the knew driving too far into Russia was a fool's errand....but they did drive deep into Ukraine even taking Crimea with the help of Bulgarians

The japanese-Russo war. It was a massively important event in world history.

And a clear Russian loss.
