Week 1 of the Indy 500 had a ton of practice plus qualifying last weekend. The only incidents were Jimmie Johnson and Takuma Sato brushing the wall, but both were very minor.

This week there are two practice sessions for teams to tune-up their race setups; a two-hour session today (going on right now), and a two-hour session for Carb Day on Friday.

They just had their first real accident. A half-hour before the end of today's session, Dalton Kellett lost the rear end entering Turn 1. His car is pretty smashed up but they have plenty of time to rebuild it for Friday. He had just been passed on the inside and was slightly off-line, and James Hinchcliffe mentioned that he probably lifted the throttle, transferring weight to the front of the car, which increases front grip and reduces rear grip. So it was probably a rookie mistake (Kellett is in his 2nd year of IndyCar).
