So, would most of the nations of Eastern Europe be subject to being reconquered by Austria or Hungary, who controlled them until that empire dissolved circa 1918?

Ok.... so apparently all you understand are off base analogies that make no sense at all.
If you head to your local Kroger today, you purchase a $100 brisket. You leave the store, and shucks you forgot the brisket! You don't go back though you're busy, you don't return the next day either. You wait 30 years. The kroger is no longer a kroger, it's a dippin dots. That's right 30 years from now dippin dots have finally made it, and in fact that's the only store left in the world, dippin dots owns everything, they told you it was the future. Now you decide you're going to take your $100 worth of merchandise back, it was yours after all. That's called theft, plain jane, dipping dot theft. You are going to jail, there's no justification and you will be a convicted criminal to be sent to dippin dot jail.

Can’t tell if Russian or moron.
Just so I’m sure of the rules, it’s completely cool if Turkey invades Israel and most of Eastern Europe, right? The ottomans held that land for centuries after all

But do you honestly believe the US would not do the same thing to keep one of its most valuable states from leaving the union.
There is no more Soviet Union. Russia just invaded a sovereign country without provocation.
You made a false equivalency. Take the L and go home.

Russia better look out, the Mongols are coming for their conquered territories back.

Reminds me of a Polish joke.
A Pole finds a magic lamp and is given three wishes.
For each wish, he asks that Poland get invaded by Mongols.
After all three invasions happen, the genie asks why he is so happy.
The Pole says “They had to cross Russia each way to do that.”

Yes in modern history Ukraine has not been part of todays Russia. They were however a founding member of the USSR. My point is Putin is attempting to bring the former Soviet States back under one umbrella. The same thing would happen if a US state tried to leave our union.

quote:everyone is subject to being conquered all the time. Might makes right. The only reason the map is the way it is is because it was conquered. You wanna know why it quieted so much since WW2? Because America and its tentacles through various methods cconquered and subdued most of the damn world. Now we are weak, incompetent, corrupt and collapsing and the world is going back to the way it's always been (the way it never stopped being if you're weren't a westerner). We can not do anything about it. Our establishment brought us down.

A number of those former Soviet republics were independent countries before being shanghaied into membership in the USSR.
The Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia come to mind.

What’s your thought on the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Golan Heights, etc, that were conquered by Israel in the Six Day War?

This is not a good comparison.
In order to be accurate, the Union would have to fail having Hawaii or Alaska separate from the Union. Then a sitting US President would have to declare war, invade, kill off their elected governments and instill one favorable to the US.
No, I don't think that would happen and I would not support it if it did.

I agree they were forced to join mostly to avoid what we are seeing today. I am in no way for what is happening in Ukraine.

You should read up on the history of that region. Those two nations have been rivals since the Middle Ages. A thousand or so years ago, Kyiv was the seat of the empire. There’s a much larger timeline here, long before the Soviet Union.
So no, Ukraine was not a state of Russia and this comparison doesn’t hold water.
And BTW, I hate this for Ukraine and am pulling for them…but still want the US to stay out of it, at least in an official/direct capacity.

Isn't that exactly what happened in 1861-1865? We have been in that situation before.

Such a dumb comparison... These people finally break free from a coersive relationship and you are the one helping the crazed boyfriend with the gun chase down the girl and tell her it is best if she just goes back home...
What a sad frick you are.

It's a good one. More difficult to justify historically than what I might spew about the Ukraine region, but the West is/was comparatively okey dokey with it
Or Iraq. Right or wrong, it was our war. Not Russia or China's place to stop us, more importantly they did not have the strength or resolve to.

I have read up on this and Ukraine was a founding member of the USSR along with Russia. Mortal enemies joined forces to take on the rest of the free world under communism. I agree with your stance that we should stay out of it and I also am for a free Ukraine.

Sure, but Russia starved millions of these people. It's not like they were buddies and just decided to part ways.
